A Boy and His Dog
Aug. 25th, 2017 01:26 pmBruce is a bad boy.
He's been told this multiple times by multiple masters. No one wants to keep him, no one has the patience to train him, no one likes that he's independent and headstrong. They all thought he'd be easily trained like the best of his family line, the most prominent pedigree human family that a Kryptonian could buy.
And then Bruce's parents died and the line ended with him. He's beautiful, yes, with the black silky fur and smooth grace that his genes promise, but he just doesn't have a suitable temperament, and that's why he always gets sent back to the breeder.
But then a time came when the breeder refused to take him back. "It's past the 90-day period," he'd said, and Bruce's master hadn't taken that very well.
So Master Vokal decided to put Bruce up for auction and get some of his money back, except the only problem was that no one would want a young, unruly male who was liable to bite the hand that fed him. So Vokal would do the only thing that he could do: sell him as a female for breeding stock.
----------
When he steps out onto the stage, led by the studded pink leash, it's to stand before rows and rows of seated Kryptonian families. He feels exposed in this ruffled pink dress that falls just below his shoulders. His short hair has been curled at the ends to make it look more feminine and his lips have been touched with a rosy pink. He hates this. He hates all of them.
He's barely ten and he's being sold off for the sixth time. When will they just let him be a stray?
He contains his sigh when the Els buy him for a mere hundred dollars, and then he's shuffled off stage to wait for the end of the auction.
The dealer brings him and his (fake) paperwork out to the Els and then he's left alone with the couple and their son. Bruce looks at the three of them and then frowns, but says nothing, and lets himself into the back seat of the car. He refuses to go in the trunk. They're going to disown him the instant they realize he's not what they thought they were buying, but at least maybe he'll be far away from the auction house when that happens and he can make a run for it.
